The Vanderbilt University Police Department's K-9 Unit includes Explosive Detection, Narcotics Detection, and Community Canine Teams.

The Explosive Detection Teams ensure security for special events and campus patrol, coordinating with agencies such as the Metro Nashville Police Department, Tennessee Highway Patrol, FBI Joint Terrorism Task Force, U.S. Marshals, ATF, and Nashville International Airport Police.

The Narcotics Detection Teams support Vanderbilt Medical Center by locating illicit drugs and combating opioid misuse through rigorous training and certification.

The Community Canine Teams enhance outreach and reduce anxiety within the community, utilizing specialized training from "Paws and Stripes Academy" and certifications from the American Kennel Club and the Alliance of Therapy Dogs.
